Howdy Catpeople,

I need to replace the 3 inch high vinyl hull ID numbers on my TheMightyHobie18. They are stuck on there pretty badly. I don't want to use a razor blade to scrape it because it would damage the gel coat. Is acetone safe to use?

Heat the letters up with a heat gun or hairdryer and peel them off. Don't heat it up too much or with the heat source too close or the gellcoat will be damaged. If there is still glue residue left after they come off, scrub it with something such as MEK, just be sure to wash it off.

The guys in the vinyl grafix business use acetone.

Take a cloth, dampen it liberally with acetone, hold the cloth over the number. DON'T smear the cloth about, but if it does smear, that will wipe off with acetone also.

In any case, the vinyl will draw up and then it will peel easily. Wipe any remaining glue or smear residue with acetone.

sea ya!
