Kerr Lake Regatta cancelled
The Hobie Division 9, Fleet 97 regatta scheduled for June 7 & 8 at
Henderson Point Campground on Kerr Lake is cancelled.
Kerr Lake is about 10 feet over the normal level.
Henderson point campground is closed, the boat ramps are flooded and/or closed,
even some of the parking lots are flooded and closed.
How ironic!
Last year we had a drought on the east coast and this year flooding.
P.S.
Go to the Sun Fun Cat Dash in North Myrtle Beach, SC instead.
Conditions are supposed to be great and you can win some money.
Sam Evans,
Commodore, Hobie Fleet 97
From what I remember there are plenty of rednecks on power boats/bass boats at Kerr Lake too. A couple years ago when it was held in a different campground I remeber the locals doing donuts on the beach at 1AM with a huge fire blazing and a lot of YEE-HAAWS, as if they were scarificing something..or someone. Or maybe it was the Solcat you converted into a committee boat....Oh, no, couldn't be - it sank. Nevermind.
some pictures of the flooding can be found at

Wrightsville Beach probably.
I've always been able to use the Carolina Yacht Club facilities, but that was because I was commodore of the NC State Sailing Club and they liked to help out us poor college students. There is a public ramp right next to the bridge, but it looks kind of hairy to get in and out of in a cat.
You can launch at the ramp by the bridge, but you need to get under the bridge to get to Banks channel and you have to wait for it to open. There is also about a 5 knot current there, so be careful.
You might contact The Ships Store. They rent spaces across from the Blockade Runner and might let you launch for the weekend.
Wrightsville Beach passed a law that you cannot keep a cat on the beach front over night unless you are having an event. You used to be able to buy a pass but a lot of sailors just left their boats on the beach and did not use them and after all the hurricanes some of the boats ended up in peoples yards and had to be removed by the homeowners (they were not happy).
