If you weren't there, you missed a great event!

The 1st annual Mainiac Hobie Regatta was held on Lake Sebago, ME this past weekend. Classic lake sailing conditions, winds from 3-14 knots and plenty of shifts to keep it interesting!

We got in 10 races over two days, which was amazing considering the forecast called for 70% chance of rain and thunder (which came through on Friday evening but missed us completely throughout the weekend).

Free lobster dinners (anyone remember lobsters at Buzzard?) to all entries, great parties Friday and Saturday night. We even had

extra

(non-racing) boats from Fleet 448 in attendance to help with the parties.

We had 10 boats racing (all Hobie 16), which was great considering this was the first Hobie points regatta in Division 12 in several years. The mix of talent was impressive, with several former rock starts coming out of decade-plus hibernation.

Full results will be posted shortly, but here are the top 3:

1. Steve Mullen and Amy Mullen, 22 points
2. Doug Baker and Hanna Sonesson, 24 points
3. Scott Baker and Sarah Baker, 28 points

Bil and Erika Weidner were exceptional hosts, along with Jim West and all the folks at St. Eiboh's (yes, that's Hobie spelled backwards and is intentional). Bil assures us that this will be even bigger next year, without scheduling conflicts, and we'll start the promotion earlier, so be sure to come out, it's worth the drive!

Oh . . . my . . . God! Steve Mullen? I haven't seen him in 24 years!

That was my home fleet when I lived in Maine from 1982 - 1985. First time my (brand new) wife raced with me was at St. Eiboh's cove. Put a hole in Bob West's boat that day (Jim's father).

I'm feeling really old now. <img src="<>/cry.gif" alt="cry" title="cry" height="15" width="15" />

This won't make you feel any younger. He was racing with his daughter Amy who is in college...

Come out next year Matt, it was a really great time.
