I will be in Miami the last week of April and would like to get on the water. Are their any sailboat rentals places you can recommend?

They are located on Rickenbacker Causeway, which goes out to Key Biscayne. Nice assortment of cats to rent and great sailing on Biscayne Bay.

Mary

How do the rental places operate regarding rental of cats? ie,

Cost, fees (or whatever)

Also do you have to have some kind of proof that you have experience?

I am guessing that you and Rick are a rental agency for cats. Is that true? (I'm asking for your business resume)

My wife and I will be travelling your way, probably next winter/spring.

Nope. We do not rent or sell boats and never have. We don't even have the motel any more. The only place I know of to rent cats in this area is Caribbean Water Sports, the beach concession at the Westin Hotel, Mile Marker 97 in Key Largo. I think they have Waves and Getaways. Phone is 305-852-4707.

I'm sure you don't need any insurance to rent a cat, or even a jet ski. All you need is money.

What used to be Rick's Place Motel is now Azul del Mar, and they have two new Hobie Waves on their beach that they rent only to guests staying at the motel. The new owners have completely renovated the place, and I hear it is gorgeous. Haven't gotten over to see it yet. They're kind of pricey, but maybe it's worth it.

Their web site is www.azulkeylargo.com

When you are ready to make your plans to come down here, feel free to call me or e-mail me if you need help about where to stay and things to do.

Rick taught the Polynesians how to sail and I think they may have stolen some racing tips from him. Mary, much prettier than Rick, has catamaran shaped DNA. If Mary says it, you can usually bet your house on it. If she doesn't know she will politely say so. Asking these two about their experience is like interviewing Santa Claus for a job distributing toys.

"It never hurts to ask" but in this case it was kinda funny (to me, anyway).

Dean,
Thanks for the accolades, but I think he was asking whether you have to have proof of experience in order to rent a sailboat.

The answer to that is, no, not in the case of beach cats, because there really is no way to "prove" that you have experience. They will usually take your word for it if you sound convincing enough and if you don't sit on the wrong side of the boat. And, besides, they will have your credit card.
