[#23601]

I remember hearing some guys in the Midwest tried a Nacra 5.5 Max type of Main sail. How did this rig work out? Who was the Sail Maker for it? Reason being, I have a 5.5 uni, need a new sail, and do not have any class racing nearby. I am 190lbs and looking for a 5.5 sail that will get a little more power. Thanks for the info...

The sail was made by the class sailmaker to accomodate the larger sailors in the class and it was not fast so the project was scrubbed.

Good luck!

Mappy, are you referring to a MAXX Pen fabric discussion?

In the process of having a new crosscut/square top main designed for my 5.5 Uni. Carbon fiber mast. Presently have two EP stock sails with different luft curve cuts that are OK.

Might be of interest to compare notes.

No I was not aware of another discussion. I actually had a sqaure top main sail made for the uni by another well known, very successfull sail maker on the west coast two years ago. I don't want to bad mouth them, I under stand building a custom sail is difficult. Especially since I feel my aluminum mast is soft and bends too easily. The sail I received I felt was too flat and the sqaure top openned up too early. It also was about two inches too short, thus the distance between the main sheet blocks was great and I felt I could not get the main centered. It was a pretty sail but just never performed. I was hoping someone already had a design out there because I am not sure I want to go through the process of trying to have one built again. I will gladly share notes and pics of my sail if you need them. nacra@comcast.net
