Outback Cup this weekend
Weather is stuck on gorgeous, food by Carraba's friday night, Outback Steaks(big one's) Saturday night, and beer.
Friday night our local town is closing down the streets and Atlanta Rythm Section and Mother's Finest are playing for $10, and dont forget the racing. 3 race courses, 70 boats are preregistered(20 multihulls so far), including F18, H16, TheMightyHobie18 and multiple huge open fleets are registered.

Derek, this was sent to me earlier this week, more were added including at least 2 other 16's, and alot of notably missing regulars never preregister. So looks like good fleets and good racing. Joanna, did a guy from Tenn with a 4.9 pm you? He is coming and wants to talk to you and Olli.

Boy the Blades look good, and fast. Not a good rating for the rest of us though, they were beating most of us boat for boat in the light stuff

How many discards were used ?
Because when I added the placings for the first 5 boats I find :
F16 Olsen 14
F18 Nigel 23
F16 Jody 22
Nacra 20 (solo) Trey 48
F18 Lennard 51
After discarding one race we have a tie at 14 points between Nigel and Jody. And the tie remains even when discarding 2 more races. Which begs the question what type of tie breaker was used.
...
(update)
Googling the ISAF regulations :
If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s
race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first
point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of
the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.
That means :
Nigel 1 2 2 3 3 3 (9) = tot. 23
Jody 2 2 2 2 3 3 (8) = tot. 22
Which would lay the tie in favour of Nigel even though Jody did sail a better series as evidenced by having a lower total score before taking the disgard.
There was some tight racing going on !
Wouter.
No it is different.
I overlooked the fact that the total score (excluding the throw) is given already.
Name No. Boat Div Rating Pts Pts Pts Pts Pts Pts* Finish
Lynn Olson 1 F16 Open A 65.2 | 5 1 1 1 1 | tot 4 = 1 place
Nigel 602 F-18 Open A 62.4 | 1 3 2 3 3 | tot 9 = 2 place
Jody 724 F16 Open A 65.2 | 2 2 3 2 2 | tot 8 = 3 place
basically this means that there is no tie breaker as Nigel has 9 points overall while Jody has 8. Jody whould be second and Nigel should be third.
i.e.
Lynn Olson 1 F16 Open A 65.2 | 5 1 1 1 1 | tot 4 = 1 place
Jody 724 F16 Open A 65.2 | 2 2 3 2 2 | tot 8 = 2 place
Nigel 602 F-18 Open A 62.4 | 1 3 2 3 3 | tot 9 = 3 place
Meaning F16's took 1st and 2nd on handicap. It is also great to see Jody elect to race of the faster 2-up F16 handicap while singlehanding. No bitching about the peachy 1-up F16 handicap here. That is the spirit Jody, respect !
Please correct me if I made a mistake.
Wouter
Thats all the info I have, I believe there is a paper copy with times on it(I dont have it or have access to it), then it was transcribed to the Excel spreadsheet. I was not involved in scoring, so I dont know what why how they came up with these numbers.
Thanks Wouter. Olie, Joanna and I were really intrested to see how the boats compare 1 up vs 2 up. The speed was very comparable. Joanna and Olie are about 255 together and I am around 165. I did not notice any time where one boat looked that much faster then the other, just times when one nut on the tiller did something smarter then the other nut.
Yep.
It was awesome racing with all you guys. My skipper may be old, but he knows what he's doing. Our first regatta together in almost 20 years. Had a great conversation w/ Rick Harper Saturday night. I was actually on the phone w/ Hootie Bushardt asking for the spreadsheet when he realized he goofed the results and bumped jody.
Thanks for a great weekend!
