Not quite so perfect for sailing in Indiana, yet...

Two Teens Rescued

This is the same lake featured in the HOTLINE story about the Hobie fleet wiped out by the storm last summer.

I know that reservoir. Would not be caught dead catting there this time of year without a MAJOR wetsuit (which I own). What's the name of the restaurant between the little airport and the dam? GREAT food.

Rick's Boatyard Cafe. Great food, great views, great jazz.

We've got a new Hobie dealer in town, Sailboats Inc., so maybe the fleet will be revived. There are tentative plans for a Wave regional regatta, possibly as part of the Mayor's Cup Regatta in May, on Eagle Creek Reservoir. It should be warmer by then!

I live by and sail on the other reservoir in Indy (Geist) but I'll drag my boat across town for that.

Am I the only one who noticed in the article that THEY WERE NOT WEARING LIFE JACKETS ? They also indicated that they could not be heard, maybe if they had a LIFE JACKET ON, it may have had a whistle attached.

Or that the water temp was 40*. Why didn't they stand on the hull? I'm surprised they aren't dead after spendy 20 minutes in that water. There's a video link on the page with the article, it looked like one of the kids was wearing a trap harness. Why not a PFD? If that was my kid I'd give em a solid beating.

And did they really tread water instead of just sitting on the hull? Duh... <img src=

The article may state no life jackets but the photos show otherwise.

I think those PFDs came from the rescuers. They look more like fire department issue.

The aritcle in the local newspaper seemed to take the attitude that the shocking and tragic part of the story was that the boat CAPSIZED (oh my gosh!). It didn't mention the water temperature, or the life jackets; just that the unidentified boater was taken to the hospital. The headline was

Sailboat Capsizes on Reservoir

and showed a photo of the boat being towed, still on its side, back to shore. (Apparently not written by a small-boat sailor!)

When I was little, wearing a lifejacket was considered not very cool. Maybe they thought the same.

Back on topic, its snowing quite heavily in Holland right now which is a rarity on easter weekend.
