[#29712]

I'm sure you've all seen the news. Terrible day to live in New England. We're OK, but I have some distant acquaintances who are not all accounted for yet.

Thoughts and prayers to all affected.

Mike

Its worrying that they seem to have absolutely no clue who is behind this.
Read that the bombs where made from pressure-cookers filled with ball-bearings and nails?
My guess is that this is some lone psychopath.

I think it's got to be some local nut who's got a beef with the city or the Boston Police Dept., or maybe even with paying his state income taxes?

The Bomb Experts on TV today were saying the pressure cooker/nail/ballbearing bomb is the standard IED in Iraq, and instructions for building it are readily available on line.

I hope they find him soon. Sadly, I don't think Mass. has the death penalty anymore.

Yesterday was a terrible day for our city and the running community. I was on the course pacing my good friend, US Sailing Judge and Umpire, and F18 fan Kerry Sullivan through the Newton hills. We were stopped at BC near mile 21 and told what happened- scary stuff. Chris Titcomb, who many of you know, was also on a training run yesterday, but he was was well clear before events occurred and safe. Please pray for everyone impacted, and our great city.

Glad to hear you guys are all OK. Sad to hear about the family who lost the boy, and the mom and daughter are hurt too. Very sad.

I hope they catch this clown.

They've got a key suspect in custody - expect to formally arrest him if they haven't already.

Glad you, Chris and Kerry are OK Jeff.

Everyone I know is safe. Having lived within one hour of Boston my entire life, and worked in Hopkinton (start of marathon) for 13 years, it's impossible for this to not affect me, to say nothing of six degrees of separation.

I know that the media is doing what they think is their job (sensationalize, break exclusive angles, etc.), and if movies and crime dramas are to be believed, are helping the authorities in some way. However, the number of stories that have changed this week is staggering. Hopefully, they have learned some lessons and will make adjustments like they did after the Bush vs Gore fiasco.

+ 1 Mike... Good point.

Sure would be nice to have RELIABLE news, rather than

breaking news

of questionable authenticity.

But in the 24 hour news cycle, I guess you have to throw a lot out there to see what sticks.

More death and destruction today as they try to wipe these guys out. Stay safe everyone, and let's hope this doesn't grow (lots more speculation in the media this morning).

Incredible events unfolding... Last night, they had a guy on twitter looking out his window reporting on the gunfight between a half dozen police and the two terrorists, He was on the third floor taking and posting pictures, while his apartment was being shot up. (photos of a bullet through his chair and hole in the wall) Later on, he was on skype with nbc recounting the gunfight/ bomb throwing and then the charge on foot and shooting/tackling of the older brother while the younger chechyan brother jumped into the SUV and bashed his way through the police cars and escaped... They had pictures of the dead guy lying in the street with the cops pointing their weapons and surrounding but not approaching him. Apparently, The had seen the suicide vest he was wearing and retreated.

the NBC anchor asked him to open the window for a clearer picture of the bomb sniffing robot looking into the car and he said.... No... it was a bomb sniffing robot.... Amazing stuff. ..

sounds like those dudes have been playing too much Grand Theft Auto...

Obviously no one in their right mind would do something this outrageously stupid... My hope is they capture the other suspect alive so we can actually find out why they decided to initiate this series of crimes...

The MIT community lost one of its own last night. MIT Police Officer Sean Collier was shot and killed while protecting our school. Thoughts and prayers are with his family, and all those impacted by this tragedy.

Mind blowing stuff. The media is being much more careful about stating what info has been confirmed, but they continue to wildly speculate about a great many things.

This is far from over, I'm afraid.
