I was wondering how much weight is needed to right a H-17 in 5-10 knot winds? I have a new one and wonder if I need to carry a righting bucket. I weigh 190 or so. Any input?

I have a H17-SE and I don't have any troubl erighting it, but I weigh about 225. I also have the shroud extenders and a righting line, so those also help tremendously. Do you have any trouble with your halyard ring/hook? You said your boat is

new

, is it brand new or jsut new to you?

Take the locking clip off your hook and put the knot on ring to the front of the boat. It helped a LOT on my 86.

Good Luck

Yeah, I know about the

keeper

on the hook being removed. The reason I ask is because I have developed a new design for the ring that I sell as a kit. If you want to know more, go to my website at:

Sam:

How old is your cat? I have a 87, and the ring was nothing but trouble from the first day I got it back in June.

Also, getting the ring to catch on the hook isn't the problem. The problem is getting it to consistently unhook when you want it to.

1993....i have removed the catch and have no problem getting it to un hook. i think it is in the knot that you tie the ring on with. The guy that own mine raced all the time on 17's and he had it down to a science.......might be why i am not having any problems.

Remove the catch on hook and put the knot toward the front of the boat. Will lock by itself with no rotation needed (I do it by myself). You will need someone to help you get it down if you can't rotate the mast yourself.
