I am a new owner of a Nacra 5.2. I've noticed that the mast fills with water when the boat is capsized, making it more difficult to right (argh!). The previous owner drilled holes at the base of the mast to drain it. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

If you have the kind that has the spreaders that go through the mast, it's probably leaking there. To find your leaks, wade your mast out in the water and push it under...look for bubbles. The bubbles will show you where the leaks are.

also inspect any rivet holes on the mast. After years of loading and unloading .. they can worm out, break, or have corrosion issues (esp with salt water use).

Most people say use marine grade silicone on all areas that may leak. My friend who was a spar fabricator doesn't think that does much good. I can't see it hurting, and have used it lib
