How do you determine the ideal spreader rake for a rig? I have a P-19 with older Smyth dacron sails(soft rig), crew weight of about 310 lbs, and need to know the what spreader rake to use. On the water, what can I look for to determine this?

If someone doesn't answer this for you, I'll look it up in my factory manual tonight. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Andrew. My problem is that the old manual reccomends a 1-1/2 inch spreader rake for the Prindle 18,18-2,and 19. Big difference in boats. Second, dacron sails get fuller as they age (opposite of mylars). I'm sure this is a factor. And finally, the spreader rake is currently set at 1/2 inch with the diamonds tighter than hell (the way I received the boat) which I know is incorrect for a soft rig(this is the prebend setting for mylar sails). It flies a hull in 6 knots. So I'm going to reset everything including the spreader rake. Come on guys/ladies, give me a number or a way to determine this.

TIA
Jack
