Wind report at Cape Canaveral is 13.6 knots gusting to 17.5 knots, out of the east. Daytona Beach forecast for this afternoon is for 10-15 out of the east.
So I guess the question is, with the east winds will they or will they not be able to use their spinnakers? Or will it be a beam reach with main and jib?
The tracking doesn't show you that stuff. <img src=

Okay, now on the maps it looks like they are on enough of an angle that they should be using spinnakers.
I can't keep them straight either. Orange is Jarrod Sonnenklar and Colin Page and while I think that's
1
, I'm not certain.
I hear that the failure was at deck level on the starboard shroud. Either the chainplate let go or the shroud tang pulled out of the hull. This came from Brian Karr (www.adventureonline.tv) who is on his way with camera in tow.
I tried doing the Marley boats as 1, 2 and 3 to begin with, but everybody was calling them by their colors, and they are referred to by their colors on the tracking, so I switched.
Marley's 1 is Marley's Orange, Jared and Colin.
Marley's 2 is Marley's Yellow, Steve Lohmayer and Jay Sonnenklar.
Marley's 3 is Marley's White, Dennis Green and Jason Childers.
Not that I know of. And I think these tracking things were designed for slow monohulls or something, because often they don't give readouts for an hour or more at a time. They probably figure they won't have moved very far anyway. <img src=

Keep in mind that I don't know anything about these things. And nobody else seems to know anything either, including the teams that put them on their boats.
The dismasting was in fact due to the forestay chainplate failing. Never seen a failure like this, the chainplate snapped in half.
Word is that they will take the 8 hour penalty and setup again in Daytona. This is not confirmed though.
Im back to work today, but have two days of helicopter video to edit and will attempt to get some up over the weekend.
First three boats, in order, are:
Tybee
Velocity
Marley's Yellow (Lohmayer)
Seacats web site said Marley's White, which is incorrect, except that they also said Lohmayer, which is right.
All three boats finished within a span of about 3 minutes. No other boats in sight.
Haven't heard about Moose-Burd yet, except the Seacats site says they hit a turtle.
Meanwhile, at our Tybee page Rick has posted story and pictures from the finish -- lots of great pictures. And if you didn't see the pictures from the start yet, keep scrolling down.
don't think so, but during the landing, they ran over the finish line flag (and nearly the guy holding it) and upon the ground crew trying to take them back out to re-round, the crew pulled on the spin pole and snapped it in half too. The F18 crew is saying they're out at this point; spinnaker has major damage (which is why they came in without a chute), short one daggerboard (no spare), and now a broken spinnaker pole. Hard to blame them.
Team Moose-Burd did not have any hull damage. The board delaminated after rounding the cape. They had a tough day as they also tore the spin where the taped seam let go. Then as they finished they took out the flag at the finish line, and had to bring the boat back out to re-cross the line correctly, but fell and broke the spin pole. We are all trying to help them have the option to continue the race with the nessisary parts, but as we can all imagine it has been a tough day for them. We will see the final verdict in the morning.
Today was a tough day with lots of parts breaking on many boats. Two long days coming up.... both look to be down wind days in strong breezes.

How many other sports dp you see this kind of help being given to opposing teams? This is part of why I love our sport, and this race! Thanks Chris!Hope they can hang in there!
This is Moose-Burd's second bow sprit broken. They broke one earlier during a pitchpole.
Apparently, they are retiring and were no shows at the skippers meeting at 9AM
Tomorrow the start may be at 9am.., we will be notified of this tonight.
At the skippers meeting Larry Ferber of Cat in a Hat said if anyone is having problems to turn their radios to channel 16. Larry said,
Since I am usually near the back of the pack, I may be able to be of help to anyone that needs it.
Sort of like the Ski Patrol cleaning the mountain at the end of the day. <img src=
