US SAILING agendas posted...
Hi Folks -
The Spring 2004 Meeting is just a few days away - the agendas for the Multihull Council, Alter Cup Committee, and Multihull Committee are all posted on-line at http://www.ussailing.org/multihull/ - please consider coming to Mobile, AL, on Saturday, March 13th to make sure your voice is heard. Multihulls are gaining credibility and recognition daily, largely due to the efforts of volunteers and weekend warriors. We've got a good Youth team gearing up for the ISAF Worlds in Poland on Hobie 16s WITH SPINNAKERS, we've got two exciting adult championships lined up for this year and next, and there's still a lot to add. Areas A, C, E, F and J have representatives up for election, there's a new Chairman, and we're looking for new ideas to grow the sport. It'd be great if YOU could be there to share some of your experience and imagination. Is your fleet, association, club or organization a member of the Multihull Council? Easy to check at http:/
If you're not greyed-out, you get a vote!
Drop me a note if you have questions or comments - hope to see you there.
John,
Just a clarification question about the ISAF Youth Worlds: Are you sure the Hobie 16's are going to be sailed with spinnaker? The last report I received from Art Stevens said it had been decided to NOT use spinnakers this year because it was too short notice for a lot of the member nations to get their kids up to speed with using spinnakers. He said the spinnakers were going to be used starting in 2005.
Which is correct?
Hi Mary -
See paragraph 4.3 of the NOR at http:/
John,
I am not sure what you mean about greyed out or not and the vote. In the list there on the linked page, I saw no one greyed out. Well, actually every other name on the list was in a grey bar, but I thought that was just a lineation.
But also IWCA was missing and I know we paid for the Wave Class.
Suggestions?
Rick
Hey Rick -
Mary, Darline and I took this conversation off the forum, but Mary has already pointed out the Waves are missing. Darline discovered the Class wasn't coded as a multihull organization for some reason, and is fixing that now.
On the issue of expired memberships, take a look at the top of the page for the explanation – “Memberships that have expired are shown in GREY Renew here:” About 80% of the organizations are in grey FONT (expired), most likely because its near the beginning of the year, and organizational memberships follow the calendar year (Jan to Dec). For example, the 18HT Class (first line) is expired (grey font) but they have an underline, which means you can click on their name to e-mail their contact person. The Alamitos Bay YC is in black font, meaning they're paid up and current, though their name is in blue font and underlined to give you the option, again, to click on them and send an e-mail. The next current member moving down the list is Baum Cat Sailing Assoc. In between and further along the list, some organizations have e-mail contacts you can click on, and some don’t. The grey font should not be confused with the shaded alternating lines that are intended to break up the list visually a bit.
As far as voting, in accordance with the bylaws (see Article 4), any current member organization can send a duly appointed delegate to a Multihull Council meeting - that person gets to vote on Council business along with the Area Representatives and Officers. Be prepared to provide some proof that you represent who you say you do... we've had multiple representatives from a single organization show up before, all claiming to represent their class, and voting against each other. An e-mail to me or Deb, the Secretary, from an officer in the organization would suffice.
In addition, any multihull sailor who's US SAILING membership is current, is an Associate Member of the Council. Although Associate Members don't vote, they are always included in discussion. Keep in mind - US SAILING isn't a class association, it's an association of classes.
