Which cat to choose?
Hi!
I need some advise on which boat I should choose. I want to buy a catamaran that I can sail both single-handed, and with my girlfriend. I would prefer a light boat like A-cat, but I think they are to small for 2 persons?
Today we have an old Tornado from 1971, and we think it is to heavy to handle, it weights probably around 180 kg.
My weight is 90 kg, and my girlfriend 55 kg.
Please give me some advise on which platforms I should look for. The requirements is that I must be able to turn the boat over by myself after an capsize, and it must be able to sail with 2 persons onboard.
My limit for the price is 5000 Euro.
Kind regards,
Magnus from Sweden
Are you willing to come to the Netherlands and pick up one Taipan F16 from 1999 for about that price ?
The current owner wants a NEW Blade F16. This way we can make everybody happy !

90 kg + 55 kg = 145 kg which is darn close to the ideal weight for the Taipan F16 (= about 140 kg).
Ideal weight for single handing is about 85 kg but you very close to that as well.
The boat itself is 105 kg without the spi gear and 110 kg with the spi gear. It is the lightest doublehander available on the market together with the Aussie mosquito's and some Bim 16's. Other competition is waaaay heavier.
Boat will handle force 7 winds without any worries. And when sailed singlehanded without the jib but with the spi it has the same Texel rating as the A-cats. When double handed with spi it has the same handicap as the F18's.
You are not going to find a better boat for 5000 Euro's. I'll take any wager on that.
If you are interested I will put you into contact with the current owner.
If you want more info you can also talk to me in private as I do own a Taipan F16 myself and race it both singlehanded as doublehanded with a very nice 58 kg lady. I'm 83 kg. = total 141 kg
