boat shoes

what exactly are you looking for a pair of shoes that can get wet and help you run around the boat? or something you can wear around a dry boat or land? if you want a pair of good boots or shoes to get wet and dry quick and help you get a good grip when hiking i recommend a pair of (GUL)BOOTS OR (GILL) BOOTS these 2 companies make awesome boat shoes i have a pair from each of them one like the sperrys and the other a pair of booties and have had them for probably 6or7 yrs and they are great. checkout ebay or amazon they have good selection on these brands cheap!

i've had top siders my whole life, love them. they work great on monos where your feet don't stay soaked...my current sperrys are the decklites and they are by far the most comfortable sperry yet but the leather uppers stay wet for days and after a long sail my feet are like raisons. i don't like boots because it is hot as hell here so less is better. this is a new product from sperry, dries quick, has a new patented sole. there are 3 different styles with the new soles and this one looks the most cat friendly. you definety have to have something between your feet and the oyster shells where i sail so a tuff sole is a must. i'll check out gul-gil.

I have considered getting these http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/products/Five-Fingers-Flow-Mens.htm for cold weather to replace my neoprene soft soled dive boots, but I have yet to purchase them. I find myself using my feet often to hold sheets, etc while sailing barefoot in the summer and would like to keep that ability in cooler weather.

oh also check out teva shoes they are awesome as well when i worked at boaters world some years back that was a better seller than most of the same style sperry

I use these.

@Rider I work out and occasionally run in my 5 Fingers.. take your time getting use to them especially if you are going to jump from the cat on the trailer to the ground they are just like being barefoot. I've gotten some brusing from them if you land wrong or just step on a rock the wrong way. None the less I love them just be careful. There are plenty of people who use the non neoprene ones on monos and they are pretty grippy.

I picked up a pair of boots similar to Yurdle's and love them. They are thin and keep you just warm enough without being hot. Plus if you are out when it's really cold double up w/ thin pair of wool / neoprene socks. I think got a lower model from Annapolis Sailing for about $40. I got them to replace my Sperrys that got a little funky after getting wet several times.

It looks like Crocs (which are love or hate them) has a new out sole designed for use in a commercial kitchen environment. As such they have a a new sole that is sticky on wet surfaces. Regular crocs...not so much

Lastly there is the old standby of Tevas (the spider rubber ones) and the Keen shoes. Not sailing specific but designed for use in wet environments and still keeping you upright.

I use the vibrams, but the kso's, I don't think they would keep feet warm, maybe the neoprene ones would a little.

After wearing a pair of Nike water shoes till they were falling apart I got a pair of these Teva water shoes for this season, turned out great, very comfortable and protect the sole and toes very well.

Best part is I was able to get a pair in size 15 which is hard to find.

i have some similar shoes made by salomon(love their athletic shoes) and i got stuck by a wonderful catfish through the mesh. Next ones will probably be neoprene.

I wore the Gill zip boots for years but your feet although warmer, never dry out and nail fungus sucks.

I normally wear my Warmers Ankle Boots and love them.

I found sandals like these worked well. Nice solid sole, and good grip.

I wear worn out adidas cross trainers unlaced.

i wear my feet. 😉

I find my feet don't have enough grip. 🙂 And there are way too many things in the boat that leave bite marks on feet and ankles. Finally got fed up walking around with bandaids all over my ankles and I switched to boots.

In optis Bare foot is the best. I hate boots so im getting Zhik barefoot boots mainly for hard hiking (Duck tape on you ankles works good to) so i dont get blisters.

Has anyone ever tried these?

it was blowing 30kns so we had all the coaches out. the laser sailors in optis 2 coaches sailing optis RWB sailing are own boat(im in red) green fleet watching in the RIBS(the younger kids).

I recently bought some zhik 460 boots. If its warm enough I prefer bare feet but these seem to work well.

when it's light air i prefer to take off the shoes and chill but when it's blowing i like to have my toesies protected, all it takes is a little mishap where some line gets snatched between your toes or you bust your arse on the trap and your foot gets raked across something. not to mention stepping on oyster shells which can be like knife blades. so my specifications would be tough enough sole, mesh uppers, covered toes, not too clunky, booty height(staying warm not an issue), quick dry, and make me look like a pretty princess....(just kidding, te he!!).

I like my Keens. I had a pair of Newport H2s that were a bit on the small side given to me. Didn't wear them for a year, but then discovered they make great boat shoes.

My brother gave me a pair of those 5 toe shoes and I absolutely hate them. People swear by them, especially runners, but they are so uncomfortable and offer little protection. I try to always wear boots because the few times I haven't I have messed up my feet. I have very long toes and can pull in the mainsheet with my feet, but I also get cought on everything.

I agree with the San Francisco comment. They are stupid, ugly and, uh...

IMHO.

😕 And I thought that cat owners were cool people talking about cool things. What's the next conversation going to be about, neoprene underwear? I can have these types of conversations with my wife when we go "fun" shopping at the mall people! GRRR
