Hi,
A topic on speedometers (can't find it) made me figure
out this simple setup. Used the padle as a boom-extender
and a Garmin gps.
Yesterday I did a test-run, here's the result.

I have an old analog speedo that was given to me with my H-18. Imagine a 3/8" aluminum pole with a plastic prop on the end. i tried it once, but the cat goes so fast i could barely hold the darn thing in the water.

I think the proper method is to tie a line to your rear beam and drag your crew behind the boat. They can hold the pole/prop in the water below them much better than you can (their hands are free)
Every time they come up for air (i assume they will get dragged under often) they can yell the current speed reading to you (in-between their gasps for air)

I recall seeing a harness for keeping the crew and analog speedo under the tramp, out of the sun. I think there was an optional Playmate cooler rack/snorkle to add to the crew's comfort.
It had a light so it could be read after sundown as well.
Well done... I will be hijacking your setup idea. I will have to see if my LCD is readable 4 or 5 ft back tho.

Maybe utilize a speedo like on a yamha wave runner. Has a 1" paddle wheel that spins that calculates speed and sends to a readable unit??
And attach to be k of a hull. Maybe one for each hull?
