I have tried search by the sorter button that uses zip code. But they do not list closest to farthest? what am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help!

your question isn't stupid (and i don't know you so who knows if you are 🙂 (kidding - kinda)
but this site's search feature isn't the best.
what you can do is:
enter your zip code first, then use the "sort by" feature and sort by zip code.
and then click the "page" selector on the bottom and get closer and closer to your area. When i did this my area was at page 13

I'm not sure what you mean by "search by the sorter button"?
Two ways to find listings close to you.
Method One:
When you look at a classifieds category (like "catamarans for sale") you'll see a box beside the first entry for your zip code.
Enter your zip code there and click go, after that each entry shows the aprox distance from your zip code. They are still sorted by newest to oldest, but it's easy then to click through the pages and see at a glance which ones are close enough.
Method Two
Inside the classifieds top menu, there is a search link which takes you to the advanced search.

Fill in your zip code in the zip code field and select a distance you are comfortable with. Then choose a category or leave it on "All Categories".
Submit the form and you'll only see listings within your desired radius.
