I've recently obtained an old 14, and it has a 5 inch crack legthwise about eight inches from the base of the mast. How much of a problem is this? Can it be mended with a weld? I'm also curious as to whether or not this boat needa a boom vang. There is a spot on the boom where one might attach. Can anyone make a suggestion?

Drill a hole in the metal, just ahead of the crack or just at the end of the crack. This may stop the crack from spreading further.

Get a welder or mix up a batch of JB Weld.

Thanks. So if I use the JB weld or some epoxy, I won't need to worry about any sort of brace?
