Hobie 14 weight limit
I have been wandering what the reasonable payload for a 14 is. I know from experience that a extra person slows the boat drastically. I know an extra person will almost always ruin the fun on a 14, but what is the max weight where the boat doesnt want to pick up and go? Also, will a trapeze help distribute the weight for two people or should a 14 just be left a solo boat?
my friend david and i launched my 14 from the beach and people on the dock were yelling that we were sinking and we forgot the plugs. he weighs 180 and i'm 155. actually the boat sailed pretty good, even with the hulls barely out of the water, certainly not fast but faster than most monos : )
I sail all the time on my H14 with 2 people, I weigh 150 and my sailing partners weigh about the same. I can't right my boat by myself so I need other people to help. I have also sailed with 3 people. It is much slower but floats just fine. It would be easy to go over forward with the bows so low, but it worked. I would say 2 people and gear is about the limit but 3 people work in a pinch.
