Hobie 17 and pitchpole
I realize that most if not all cats are subject to pitchpole, but was wondering if the 17 is less susceptible to it than the 16. I was thinking about purchasing a newer boat. I have experienced it on my 16, and luckily i was out on the wire and swung in front of the jib, my buddy skipping, got a huge bruise and scrape on his thigh from either the main cleat or the jib car. Are there as many races for the 17? On a lighter note, had a great sailing day this past Sunday, fully extended on the wire with the hull just touching the surface. great day. thanks in advance.

I have a lot of experience on the 17 but only recently started sailing a 16, however I'm pretty confident that the 17 is less prone to pitchpoling than the 16. (Although the 16 seems much less prone to pitchpoling than it's critics would have you believe). Accross the board there are better racing opportunities for the 16. Racing opportunites for the 17 are limited and depend greatly on your location. Where are you located?
I have stuff mine a few times downwind and it just popped back up and keep on trucking. Never had a problem going to weather. I love mine. I added a 78 sq ft reacher and it flies. I have to race open, but I have a REAL good rating. If you want to see mods sen me a email.
