Ok, after some thought and advice about refinishing the hulls (Paint or Sand)I have decided that the sanding method would bring the hull finish back to life.
How can I make repairs to match the original hull finish?
Bob thanks for the heat gun idea, it did the trick on the decal removal.

West Marine sells a gel coat kit with picments of various colours to match the existing gel coat...

Thanks Patrick, I just found a previous post that addressed this problem. How close can you get the color to match?
