Has anyone here installed a Baby Bob on a Hobie 16?
I just picked one up and the instructions are kind of vague. Don't want to drill a wrong hole and mess up my mast head.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

What kind of mast head do you have?

I believe there was a post on this subject a while back, but can't be sure. The Installation for the Comp-tip mast head should be pretty straight forward I think.

You probably have the all aluminum mast and head. This requires the mast head to be drilled and tapped for the threaded bolts. I think if you place the Bob mount in a natural position, you'll be ok for hole drilling.

I have the comptip mast head. 2 sheaves. The first hole placement appears that it would be fine, but the second looks way out of whack. They seem to have me drilling right through the halyard path.

I had the same prob w/ my comptip masthead. The first hole is right in line but the 2nd one comes up a lil short. I contacted my hobie dealer about it and he said to just drill a new hole and pull out one of the sheaths. I decided against that and so i went and picked up two mending plates. I riveted them to the bracket and then drilled the appropriate holes in it. Make sure your local hardware store stocks 3/16 stainless steel bolts. Come to find out lowe's doesn't stock anything lower than a 1/4. In light of finding this out i had to take a titanium drill bit and drill out the steel bushings that fit inside the sheaths. This is a painstakingly long process but in the end it worked out perfect. Have hit the water with it several times w/ no prob. Good luck.

When you trailer your boat, do you remove the hobie bob from the masthead? If so, do you undo the mounting bracket or just remove the screws from the bob itself?
