Just took my Hobie 14 Turbo out for the first time yesterday. The cleats for the jib sheets are mounted on the forward cross member, making the action on the jib too downward and not aft enough. The jib clew has a few adjustment points, but not enough to compensate. The foot of the jib is the proper length for the cat. Thinking of remounting the cleats on the side members, about 1/3 way back. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? As I am writing this post, another possibility crossed my mind: could I shorten the legs on the forestay bridle to move it forward and solve the problem?
Your jib cleats are too far forward. The stock turbo jib cars are monted aft of the crossbar thru holes in the tramp and secured with a wire running underneath. Mounting the cleats on the side members is going to open the jib slot way too much and going to weather will be very inefficent. I would not recommend shortening the
legs
on the forestay bridle due to the stress you will be applying to the bows. Plus I don't think this will accomplish much. Best recommendation I can make is either find a turbo tramp or sail as a uni-rig.
