so i found a hobie 16 and the guy said that the sails are in good condition but need the leech and luff plates reattached. well i know from my limited sailing lessons the luff is the forward part of the main sail and the leech is the aft part of the main sail, but what are the plates that would need reattaching? are those the little metal pieces that attach to the sheets?

he also states that most sail repair places can attach them for a small fee of around 35 bucks. is that a reasonable estimate?

thanks! more questions to come im sure...

These are small plates riveted to the sail corners to distribute downhaul and outhaul pressures. They are simple to install. The rivets are like what

Rosie the riveter

would have used. Not the (pop) pull pin type. You clamp the plate with something like vise grips. Insert the rivet head down on an anvil / vise and hammer the pin to expand and lock in place.

Yes, a sail maker would do this easily and for little money I would think.

Clew / Tack plate set (1 pair) with rivets # 12240000 $12.55
