[#25347]

I've sailed 2 days with it and one thing that really gets annoying is the JIB battens (top 2-3) constantly get caught on the mast (more so the lines/wires like the main sail line) that run up and down the mast. Not to much problem if there is a decent breeze. (that will pop the jib through and out) but so far I've only expericed very light breezes to (times of zip/nothing) and in these light conditions the Jib battens are always sticking. Now I noticed my 2nd batten is broken. Not sure if it came that way (used boat) or I did it by pulling on the jib to release it. HELP!

Is it practicle to pull/remove the top 2-3 batten frm the jib? are they really doing that much?

Don't remove the battens. This is common and discussed here many times. There are many potential

cures

. Trimming the battens short, pulling the jib and main halyards aft, techniques on pushing the sail mast the mast.

Thanks - I have trimed the battens (hacksaw) worked pretty well.

Add a Aussie 3:1 jib halyard system. Install a cheek block on the side of the mast just above where the top batten hits. Put it as far back as possible but not too far back that the screws/pop rivets stick into the sail track. Seal with silicon.

Run the halyard around it to mostly eliminate halyard interference.
