Newbie question
Hello!! I am tyring to get my Hobie 15 ready for the water, I am new to rigging this thing, I have been using the assy manual and hobie.com and the parts list to gather everything I need. I have the old style main block system with a two sheave block and ratchet block for the bottom that is attached to the taveler car and the two single sheaves that attach to two hooks on the boom. I think I understand how to thread the main sheet thru the sheaves to connect the upper and lower. My problem is how to control the traveler car in the track. I think there is suppoed to be a cam block that attaches to the back crossbar somehow and then the mainsheet goes thru the traveler somehow and is tyed off at the dead eye in the center of the crossbar. However, I don't think my boat has the cam block that the mainsheet is suppoed to go thru adn I'm not real sure how the sheet is suppoed to thread thru the traveler. Do I understand this right? One hand is on the mainsheet at all times to control the boom tension, then you pull on the other end of the main sheet to pull the traveler towards you when close hauled and then uncleat the main and let the travler move out the track to let the boom out, like if on a down wind run. Do I have this right? It seems like that it would take a lot of effort to pull the traveler up the track, esp if close hauled with a stiff breeze. Does anyone have a picture of the rear crossbar with the mainsheet coming out of the ratchet block and going thru the cam block and traveler??? If I am off-base on this, I wold appreciate a little help. Thanks !!!!!!!
Hobie 15? Should be the same as most of the others. You can see the traveler setup in the Hobie 16 assembly manual:
