I have a question about the hulls on my H16 and buoyancy. It's an "oldcat" so I check the floats constantly for water and drain them as needed. They never have an excessive amount of water in them.
My problem is that I feel as though they’re not buoyant enough. Granted… I am a big fella weighing in at a lean 215lbs, but being blessed with size is only good when I pitch pole. About two weeks ago I had a passenger with me and we started to submerge one of the pontoons. My buddy weighs 160lbs, so our combined weight was 375lbs.
Am I stressing this boat? Even when I sail it alone my weight tends to make the pontoon “ride deep”. Any suggestions or insightful wisdom, other then “eat less meat” would be appreciated.
Regards,
Mike

215 lbs isn't out of line for the boat. About the only thing that would make it less buoyant would be if the internal styrofoam flotation blocks have become waterlogged. This is fairly common and adds a lot of weight to the boat. It's not that the boat has less buoyancy, it's just heavier. Have you ever weighed the boat? Maybe someone can help with what it's supposed to weigh.
