Hi again! I just wanted to know if anyone out there or their wives has sailed their cats while being pregnant? We just found out my wife is pregnant, ( our 1st, and we are both in our late 30's), and I am wondering if anyone has any does or don'ts- other than her lifting the trailer? I guess I'll just submerge the trailer to get the boat on and of. We just pleasure sail and when flying a hull only use the straps- in fact we have been nearly vertical without straps or trapeeze!
Just thought I'd ask and let everyone know I will do my best to make my child a CAT SAILOR!
Happy sailing! And to all of you on the East Coast waiting on the storm Good Luck, and be Careful!!

Just a thought...

My wife had a miscarriage years ago. It was not a nice experience for her. She was quite awhile getting over it. Who knows what the cause of it was.

However can you imagine if your wife miscarried after a traumatic experience, such as a pitchpole type of accident where she hit something going in the drink? Maybe she hits a wire or the mast or the hull. Maybe she gets knocked out. Who knows...

Would you want this on your conscience. I have heard stories of women going into labour which was brought on by a traumatic experience.

My vote would be to forgo the short term for the long term. Better to ensure junior has 5 fingers and 5 toes....

Congratulations on the new Kid. As much as i dont like the idea for people being on the water i think the above person is right. If your going to have her on board no matter what we say just make sure its not to windy and dont let her do much work. You can always just get her to lie down on the tramp and you move all over the boat without her and she'll just enjoy being there. Other than that make sure after 4 months she really doesn't go out because it really wont end up well and if anything happened while on the water well that wouldn't end up well. Be carefull and have fun.

Thanks for the advice! If we do go sailing I'll probably take her out on my brothers 26 foot Paceship sloop, in light wind, but I'll make sure she does nothing, but relax.
Thanks,
John

If your wife is active already then there should not be any problems up until the second trimester. Most women when they inquire with their doctors about activities are told that they can continue to do what they normally do as long as they are comfortable. i.e. if you are used to running you could continue (they would naturally slow down as it would become uncomfortable as time passed). I agree with the above posts that you probably would not want to go out in a blow.
