[#16220]

I have a late 70's H16. Their is a loose strand on the lower forestay, so I'm planning on replacing right away. The problem is that the jib assembly block has a machined rivet of sorts rather than clevis and coler pin as shown on the hobie 16 parts diagram for newer boats. So- I can't remove the old lower halyard without drilling out the rivet or using a hacksaw, etc.. I'd like to avoid spending $43 on a new jib block assembly. The sheave on my block does have a pin and is removable. I'm thinking I might be able to drill out the old block- or pop the rivets out- and put in some pins to save some money- but only if it seems solid. Has anyone tried this or have any suggestions. Thanks

My TheMightyHobie18 has a block on the jib halyard that is held in place by a pin with a cotter pin through it to secure it. Make sure you find a pin that is the correct length. You don't want it to stick out too much as it will snag on sails and running rigging. Remember the forstay and shrouds are held in place by a pin. So, drill out the rivit and find a suitable pin to replace it.

No problem. Drill out the press pin and replace with clevis and cotter key. Been there, done that.

Thanks for the reassurance- drilling out the jib block was easy. Quinn
