[#12393]

I'm in the process of cleaning up my rudder systems (i.e. slop, hum, rake...) but the bolts going through the upper castings are frozen.

Does anybody know if the castings are threaded or if my bolts are truley frozen and can safely be knocked through???

They are not threaded, prob. stuck with salt and corrosion. Try turning them back and forth with the nuts off and then carefully tap them through over a vise or something to support the casting.

I have used a propane tourch to heat the bolt then turned the head back and forth till it was free. Careful not to apply heat to the casting though.

A little twisting and tapping was all they needed.

Thanks again.
