Solo Righting system for H16
Hello,
I had the anti-pitchpole attachments on my H16 and I thought they were worth the expense. There were a few times when I felt they saved me from a tumble. If nothing else, it'll give you a little confidence to push the boat harder.
I know that the SoloRight is a well proven righting device. It has worked for boats up to 21'. Gary's website is at http:/
The righting pole that is sold at catsailor.com is another option, but I'm think it's use solo depends on your weight.

Jay,
I sail a Hobie 18, which is much heavier than a 16. My main problem when sailing (which I do mostly solo) is knowing that If I go over I will not be able to right the boat. Yesterday I went down to the club
and rigged a contraption which was posted on this website. It's a righting mechanism based on Ricks righting pole (a low tech and cumbersome version). I flipped the boat 7 times to see if I could right it and I did every single time without any problems! i weigh 180 lbs. This will definitely give me more confidence when sailing out in the ocean. Buy Rick's righting pole!! The system absolutely works!!
Yes, that is the type we used. Here's a couple photos of them installed on our boat. It comes with longer bolts for mounting in your existing tang position. Keep the old bolts, as you can always remove the fins if you want to race in a class event, or if you sell your boat.
