spinaker on a H-14

You know im not sure but if it can tell me soon because dam the would be alot of fun expecialy in a gale!!!!

I don't know about the Wave kit, but Bob got the recipe right for the Hooter. I rigged my 14 with the same kit that Bob did and I have to say, it is a blast. Sabre Sails made them for him and I just ordered the 'kit' but with my own color scheme. I also requested a different material for the Hooter because I wanted something a little more sturdy than what Bob got. He is selling his sails, by the way.

I used a solid mast to take the extra load of the sail. I had an extra boom with a boom vang tang on it, so I used that to attach the sail to the mast. I also had to install another cleat near the base to cleat off the hooter. I went ahead and used the standard turbo set-up as far as the block placement, but I did add barber haulers to open the slot. Bob was concerned about the added pressure on the side bars, so he added the anchor plates like on a 16--I did the same and I think it works very well. For the pole, I used a 'skinny' windsurfer mast and cut it to about 10.5 feet. I did buy a square top main, but if I had stayed with the original pin head main and just added the Hooter, it would have run under $1000 for the sail and gear!

They look like fun but im curious can you run a jib as well because i know what its like not running one up wind against people with them. We put a 14 foot skiff kite on our hobie and we didn't run a jib and we were getting beaten big time even with the kite. Then we put the jib back on and we were in front by a long shot.

I thought about running a jib on mine, but I thought it would be too many strings on the tramp and I needed to get the pole at a higher angle. The bridles for the Turbo are just too short to get the Hooter at the right degree. The Hooter is a flat sail, so you can actually sail it up wind! Thus, you don't really need a jib. Granted, you have to foot a lot more than with a jib or uni rig, but you get there much faster. One more issue is that if the wind is really blowing (like 15+) you really can't use the Hooter up wind. That is a down side, but you can use it on the down wind leg and make up some time..
