Anyone out there with a simple but effective way to tune the H 16 for racing. I am going to race this coming weekend. I have looked at plenty of manuals, but I am looking for a shortcut if possible. Any suggestions.
Thanks
Kappie

I can tell you how to tune a fish.

(That joke NEVER gets old.)

Minnesotans are such difficult people. Play with your rigging, and experiment with settings. Take notes. And don't worry, you won't win your first regatta.

Hi Kappie
Where are you racing? I'm new to racing myself and found the best way to learn about tuning is from other sailors. You'll find most Hobie sailors are pretty relaxed in sharing knowledge. So for some good advise, ask one of the sailors rigging next to you if he could point out a couple of things on your boat he might improve on

some things i do
check the toe in of the rudders- about 3/16"
check the mast rake. should be nearly block to block with maximum mainsheet tension.
tighten the tramp.
check and/or replace tell tales and wind vane
clean the hulls and rudders.
spray lube the mast step, all the blocks, the rudder cams, and the traveller track.
read the race instructions. again.
arrive early. set up and sail early. attend the skippers meeting. then
sail fast and have fun!
