weather helm - one one side only!

Sorry if the answer is in the FAQs.

I have 2 Hobie 16s, and the strange thing is, they have more weather helm one one side than the other.

On the first, the Port tack is favored, and on the other, the Starboard tack is favored. This is going straight out and then back again to the starting point.

Hulls are dry, rudders appear to be aligned correctly, I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated!

It is possible that unequal shroud lengths can cause such a conditions. I have successfully diagnosed an unequal weather helm that was caused by a shroud that was twisted and fouled at the top; this caused it to pull the mast to one side.

Is the boat square? Measure bow tang bolt to opposite side rudder pin then the other side. Should be equal. If one bow is forward maybe that can effect it?

Rudders can also be asymetrical. Maybe the blades are tweaked?

Hey Matt, how would one adjust to squareness? Maybe a cable with a turnbuckle Please don't tell me to buy a new boat

The trampoline keeps it square. Loosen the tramp. Use a line between the "long" measurement bow-to-stern. tighten till square or slightly beyond for possible "spring back". Tension the tramp with the line still in place. Loosen the line and re-measure.
