Looks like the anonymous Hobie hater in the "rubber room" (the Old Forum) has revealed himself. And YES a Hobie 16 can hold 40 people before it sinks. And for a while, the U.S. Navy was using Hobie 16s as a nuclear launch platform, because of their excellent stability in high winds.

(Ah, remembering the good old days when the old forum was the only forum.)

SIMPLETON Sailor Intercept Multihull Program Lanyard Extracted Torpedo Onboard Navigator ( This did'nt work so well, not many boats got past the training phase and the crew could'nt swim fast enough to get away from the target.) Bg

Hay commodore man if you haven't noticed this a H16 forum so why don't you create a Nacra 5.2 forum to spread your anti-H16 comments, oh thats' right not enough people are interested in such a forum, oh yes the 5.2 is no longer in production. I really don't see why your felt is was so important to let us know about your negative attitude.

Jeez, guys, c'mon--didn't you notice that Chip labeled his first post "funny old ad"??? Don't you think Chip's point is that the ad was FUNNY, not a serious diatribe against Hobies (or their owners)? I was suprised to see him branded a "Hobie Hater" right off the bat. Why, because he thought an old ad against Hobies was a hoot?

Lighten up, guys! Yes, he does dare to sail a different brand of boat, but don't run him off for that. Next thing you know, non-Hobies won't be allowed in Hobie-sponsored events anywhere in the country... (Oops, too late!!!)

Kevin

...I don't think Chip took me seriously,...and neither should you. I was just waxing nostalgia about the old forum, when the most ridiculous discussions would occur about Hobies. The Hobie insultors, both clever and not so clever, often made their anonymous presence known. And as much as I love Hobies, I never did accept the assertion a H-16 could hold 40 people. Some people saw the humor in clever remarks (on both sides), and some missed the humor and were insulted.-The result was like watching a food fight in a junior high lunch room. There was one dullard of a Hobie-hater that thought he was funny, but he was just obnoxous. If you go to the old forum, you may be able to still start a food fight. Just claim something wonderful about Hobie, that sounds a bit too wonderful, and see what happens.

Actually, I was responding more to "sail-s", who did seem a little over the edge in his post.

You mean that Hobie 16's don't actually hold 40 people??

Welp, I have sailed Hobies since forever. I currently have a Nacra 5.2 and as a 17ft boat for 1 or 2 people I could not be happier. Frankly, I can sail it single handed faster than most anything else on the beach. The only down side is that there is just not enough room for 3-4 people.

I have never been a fan of the Hobie 16, and I have never put anyone down because of it. In fact my 3 best sailing buddies sail two H16's and a Hobie Getaway. To each his own. Anyone that has a problem with someone's boat is an elitest and that is no way to go through life.

At the end of the day we all share the same wind and we all drink the same beer.

The only reason I put it on your Hobie 16 forum was because the ads reference to the "yellow banana shaped boat". I like Hobie 16s and Hobie 16 sailors. Can't we all just get along? Sorry if I offended you.

PS. I don't even own a Nacra 5.2, and most of the boats in our fleet are Hobie 16s, thirty of them sitting on the beach 24 hrs, 7 days a week, all year.

I liked the ad, even though I owned a H16. It shows the competition between the companies back in the hey-day of catamaran sales. Thanks for posting it.

Hobie 16's are racing boats and are really fast and there made of fiberglass and resin and anodized aluminum and have two sails one in the front and one in back and I like them. This forum is a lot of fun.

Chip:
Now don't YOU start getting all oversensitive. One guy got a little wild, and he was told to settle down. End of story.

I see another Hobie food fight is currently going on the "Old Forum." Grab a rotten tomato, and toss it.
