July 30-Aug 2 -- Hobie Wave North American Championships, (This is a combined IWCA and HCA regatta, all starting and racing together and scored separately). Put-in-Bay, OH, During the I-LYA Bayweek Regatta, PIBYC.

Deb Schaefer

We are coming from Iowa/MN/SD and hope to bring 5-8 boats. Be awesome if we could get a 30-40 number for this regatta.

Comments by Rick:
Put-in-Bay is one awesome venue -- great fun on the water and tremendous fun on land. There is so much to do.., Perry's Monument, Wineries, Night Clubs with national entertainment, caves, great bars and restaurants, and the NAs are being held in conjunction with the I-LYA Bay Week Regatta, the largest fresh water regatta in the worlds since the mid 1800s. And they have a couple of parties per day.
DON'T MISS THIS REGATTA.
And it is not just for Waves
There will be an open cat class on DPN or if there are 5 boats you can have your own class.

Be sure to head for town and not the lighthouse. Lots to see

Wow, what hyperbole! First, ILYA was formed in 1895 and the first regatta at Put-In-Bay started after that, not the mid 1800s, and it took time to grow. Also, Bay Week has been declining for decades and has not been even the largest fresh water regatta in OHIO, let alone the world, for years! That distinction goes to Cleveland Race week regatta; see: http://ech.case.edu/cgi/article.pl?id=B15

I hope the turn out is good but accuracy should not be surrendered just to

hype

a regatta. It is too easy to fact check things now to claim ignorance or to deny the obvious.

Mike,

I find it somewhat strange that you have such a negative attitude about Put-In-Bay or Wave sailing in general after you started getting shellacked by newcomers to the fleet several years ago.

You are a great sailor and I consider you a friend….why don't you put aside your issues and join us instead of throwing balls of crap at what we have been working hard to accomplish?

Unifying Wave sailors is a BIG DEAL.

Grow up!

Hey Jack, maybe you need to reread what I wrote: I just stated the FACTS and you put a whole personal interpretation on it. I love Wave sailing and have been racing with better sailors than you typically get at the Bay Week so you are wrong about that. They too have been put off by the years of disappointment from the lousy race committees. Maybe you conveniently ignore all the people who don't come back and just ratchet up your hype to get new unsuspecting sailors to show up. Even Mimi Appel asked who was doing race committee this year on the Wave Forum. It is because the issues had not been acknowledged for so long that people just got fed up with the screw ups and no corrective action It is the same reason that the Steeplechase has faded to nothing. I used to provide a list of problems with the regatta and suggested fixes and year after year it was ignored.

BTW, friends don't make public personal attacks, Jack. Your advice is good and you should take it.

So you are joining the name calling club, too, huh Rick? Read my post again. I even specifically stated that I hope you get a good turnout; I was just pointing out factual, documentable errors in your post. Why is it that you feel that being accurate is such a big ask? You and Jack are awfully defensive... why would that be? Oh, yeah.

Guess you have been out of the loop for quite a while. After a really bad year for the I-LYA ( I believe it was 2008) Bob Shepherd organized a committee of many people with many ideas and many criticisms. And acted upon it. Bay Week is back and back strong.
And your supposed facts are indeed not factual, so please stop posting here in your efforts to discredit the regatta.

Yes, Rick, the last one I attended (which I won, Jack)was in 2009. I made no effort to discredit the regatta, in fact I specifically wrote that I hoped you have a good turnout (are you sure you read my post?). I simply asked that you provide accurate information and provided the documentation to support the facts. Where is YOURS? That is the nature of facts - they stay the same whether it is what you want or not.
Let's see if this is clear enough..I truly hope the regatta is a smashing success, Rick, and that the Waves have the biggest turnout so far. Then maybe you will feel confident enough to describe it factually next year.
