Any one ever do this ? Wondered what the tidal conditions were like as the Race is out there among other things. Im looking to kayak at it solo perhaps at the end of the summer then take the Ferry back.

Have crossed "The Race" many times in all tidal/wind conditions. Wouldn't recommend doing it in a kayak but you will do want you want to do. Wait for a calm breeze day, wait until the current starts to slacken, then paddle like hell and hope to be across before turns really hard against you. Also watch out for the ferries and other large boats they might not see you or see you on the radar.

Actually, I meant I want to do the crossing sans the Race. Id be looking at leaving from Old Saybrook. If New London, Ill just leave a wide berth.

Ever cross the race in a Cat?
