Racing in LI?
I am moving out to Sea Cliff tomorrow with my 6.0.
I appreciate all the responses I got about possible racing.
Now heres my one last problem. I have so much going on that I can barely process it all let alone figure out where these regattas are and when.
Could someone make it easier for me and show me a rough schedule of when and where regattas are? Distances from Sea Cliff would be awesome too but I guess I can manage mapquesting them.
Thanks!
-Todd Riccardi
Do you have a trailer for your 6.0? If you do there are possibilities for us to work out a schedule for sunday races in a convenient location on Long Island where we can get the best turnouts. I've found that there are several sailors willing to race but not everyone has the ability to attend away games. Let me know what you can handle and I'll try to see what kind of a schedule we can set up that gets the most boats on the starting line. Greg
Greg,
I have a trailer.. Right now my boat is in Sandy hook until after the statue race. It will be back here after that. Is there anyone that sails near sea cliff? Isn't there a park nearby you guys sail out of? I would trailer my boat a reasonable distance but i'd rather not do it too often as it takes a while to rig and de-rig. I have a pretty busy schedule this summer but could probably fit something in.
Did I mention how much I hate trailer the boat through long island traffic? And all these damn parkways I can't take the trailer on!
Let me know.

it looks like there are several guys that are looking for cat racing on LI but it is not happening, any ideas how can we develop an active fleet and race?
I am in Nassau and even suffolk for me too far if i have to go weekly, not to mention sandy Hook or connecticut.
would be nice to have local base or beach
any creative thoughts?
I think the first step is finding out exactly who and how many want to be part of it. Once we figure out how many people are interested and where they are based we will be able to look for a reasonable location. I think anyone who is interested shoud leave their name and where they sail out of for starters. I would be happy to be the first.

Mark, I'm glad you could show up for our Shelter Island Race. I hope you enjoyed it and can see the camraderie out here. I think communication is the most effective way to get L.I. sailors together for racing, crusing etc.. I think the first step is to update the LICSA website. Check out this old link to see what we used to be doing. Greg http:/
We are working at injecting some younger fresh blood into the organization. Any ideas as to what might intice other sailors to discover our brand of fun?? I've heard sailors who have competed all over the world say that our waters are some of the best and most challenging they have sailed in. It amazes me that we have to work so hard to get attention to this area for cat sailors. Greg
Gregg, we need 2-3 days regatta, club or park that can support us and figure out who is interetsed in what and how.
also see wht resources we can pull together to revive the web side etc. I am ready to do this any time, even labor day weekend even though it is short notice.

Unfortunately Cedar beach is a county park. They do not allow fires or overnight camping. Some of the residents who live nearby have called the local police who call the park police everytime I have held clambakes for LICSA. It's great for daytime club get-togethers but I have to find a nearby location where boats could stay mast-up overnight. Greg
I am presently negotiating for the use of Orient State Park for two day races next year. The park closes at dusk and the ranger lives there. The boats would be safe overnight. We could race in Gardiners Bay, around Shelter Island or into the Peconic Bays. The park has barbecue grills, bathrooms and a concession stand. There is even a playground for your kids to amuse themselves while you race. It's very accessible for New England sailors. If I can get permission this would be a great venue. Greg
hi guys
there is a lot of traffic on this subject, may be the most active thread at the moment, but very few replies.
there are several people that would like to be actively involved in making the regular racing happen and even trying to build a fleet.
but we need your support.
if you remotely interested and open to entertain an idea of getting togheter and disucss the action plan, pls send your replies with your contact information or email me to my personal af8mail@yahoo.com.
here is the wish list:
club or sailing association that would support multihull events and has mast up storage, or
a beach where you can keep boats and launch the races off the beach
or anything else that can get us organized.
I just came back from F18 Nationals, there were 41 F18 from everywhere including canada , austarlia and Holland,
there were no boast from NY metro, not to mentioned LI.
there is a new fleet fo F16 buliding, new Blade coming out for alter cup, but there are none in this area.
ther is a big fleet of A-cats out there, but noone racing it here,
all above are new , hi tech, exciting boats, if there is any interest we could build the fleet and try to revive the cat racing.
.
cheers
So far I have verbal permission from the park manager to hold 2-day races at Orient State Park next summer. I have to get our club insurance in order and produce a letter of intent. We can keep our boats on the beach overnight with the masts up. We could race saturday, have a barbecue/party then come back sunday to race again. This location makes it easy for CT and MA sailors to join in. It would be great to hold races one weekend each month from june-sept. We're going to have a meeting for anyone who is interested. I'm thinking sometime in november. Greg

I'm out on eastern LI ...North Fork ...gjoyce@optonline.net ...
As for meeting ...depends on where you want to set up ...halfway west for some of the Up West guys, further east for the CT guys, etc. I'm pretty much game for any where on the island ...
Gary
Hauppague sounds good. Is there any place in particular that you think is good for a meeting? I am still working on setting up the big items so that we can discuss and vote on the details. In the meantime, there is still nice weather left for sailing-plus plenty of gusty wind! Greg

there's a Bennigans right off the LIE around Exit 52-54 ... there enuf guys interested in this from up West? If not, let's move it east some ...
anybody need a crew on weekends, I'm game ... I'm good into drysuit weather ...
