Easter Regatta at Paynesville
Hi all,
as allways you are all welcome at the Gippsland Lakes YC Easter Regatta. Good variety of courses, starts off with the long distance race
Classic 30
nautical mile race on Saturday morning 10am, which finishes sometime in the afternoon. Then Sunday afternoon 2pm start for the Around Raymond Island race, which has a perpetual line honours trophy. Then Monday 10am start, for Lake Victoria Triangles, which is a big around the buoys course.
Few visiting Mossies already said they are coming plus some other cats and trailable Tris (is also open to monos), hope to see you there, more info Notice of race etc at sailglyc.com
Looks like about 6 Mossies will be racing, a mixture of with and without spinnaker, plus a variety of other cats for Mossies to annoy (not thinking of any particular Stingray, Mich B) <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" /> . As usual there will be some big Multi's to take on as well and something new, some foiling Moths.
So come and join the regatta with real variety, 30 mile and short courses and boats from 12' to 40'. <img src="<>/cool.gif" alt="cool" title="cool" height="15" width="15" />
Hi all,
The Easter Regatta again saw a good turn out of Mossies, a number of boats where sailed by different skippers but most local cats hit the water. With
Karma Cat
sailed by Henry S,
Bite Me
sailed by returned local and new to Mossies Ben F,
Immunity
,
Kryptonite
,
The Joker
(sloop rigged) and
Thrice Bitten
.
Catalyst
turned up but had some weak excuse about not being able to find some bits (Uni makes them soft) so never sailed, a local Hobie Getaway, then there was the Melbourne boats (local member) Mitch B on the Stingray and a Hobie 20. with spin.
The Classic 30 was more than a little frustrating but lead home by Stingray “Last Tango”, but pretty much all 6 cats in the race had a go at the front at some stage, whilst some really enjoyed looking at the bottom of the lakes through the very clear water for hours on end, whilst jelly fish swam past, or doing cartwheels on the deck of
The Joker
, race time was around 6 hours, a real test of endurance. A big night was had by some Div 4 sailors Saturday night which seemed to hang on for most of the weekend, in one form or another.
The Around the Island race took a while to get started and had a timing mix up at the start which left
Immunity
and
Kryptonite
hanging back, while others raced away. The wind turned out to be not too strong (15kt) and a huge spinnaker reach started the cats off well, but the upwind was a bit choppy and became lighter than expected, again the Stingray lead the way, although finding Mick's Spit proved a bit of a problem allowing “Thrice bitten” to catch up a bit. But the Stingray got the fastest time clearly.
Mondays Lake Victoria triangles where postponed until the wind picked up and it turned out to be the best days sailing of the regatta, with the wind shifting but mostly around maximum speed for spinnaker sailing (18kt) great fun, but some went swimming (brotherly love involved for the ranggers), again the Stingray lead the way, with “Thrice Bitten” in pursuit. The end to a great weekend.
