I purchased some used sails not to long ago and I took the battens off the old sail and put into the new one. My question is how far are the battens supposed to stick out? They seem to be sticking out too far. I would say they are about 2 inches out. Is that normal?

2" is fine, 4-6 inches then you start cutting them down.
