Which is the best A cat for a starter? I've seen there's plenty on the Australian site for sale in the teens, which wuld suit my budget, but will they be competetive in mixed fleet racing? If not, I suppose they would still be heaps fun anyway...
They (a cat legends) tell me im a bit heavy at 90kgs, is that still too heavy for a flyer or Boyer? I have no ambition to be state champ etc but don't like coming last at club level either.
Thanks in advance
Chocko

Boyer Mk IV and better would be more than competitive in a mixed fleet. That includes the Flyer I which just was third in the Worlds. The important things are that the platform is stiff and the rig/sail is up to date. Any of the designs you will find from the mid nineties in AUS will be highly competitive. It is mostly the skills of the sailor that will get any of those boats near the front of a mixed fleet on yardstick. I'm not sure which A Class legends have been telling you the 90kg BS. There are plenty around that weight and more who are highly competitive in the national fleet. Don't use it as an excuse.

A

rigs are highly tuneable to suit different weights and can be powered up or down easily.
Go for it - there is a national title in your State in 6 months time.

Hey ACE, Do you know of Zanes boat?
AUS880 Flyer Mark 1 for sale. Fiberfoam mast, Brewin sail, carbon beams, full boat cover, Mackay trailer with spare tyre and rego, beach wheels. Regretful sale due to work commitments. Boat in excellent condition-boat stored in shed. This boat will sell!
Location to view: Sunshine Coast
It's on the a cat website, and seems pretty good value.
My father lives near Lake Cootharaba, I guess I'm running out of excuses.....

I know the boat well - it's at my club. It's in great condition and an absolute bargain after the price has been dropped $4k.
Don't buy it - I want it to stay at my club!

Cheers
