Fun Day
Is anyone up for getting together for a fun day? Totally BYO BBQ, but take the kids and significant others sailing, hull flying contests along the beach, and although maybe taboo in some cultures, "Boat Swapping"! There is nothing like a little "strange" every once and a while.
Soon is the time, while it is still a little cool, the element at the beach will change as it warms up. ?
Eric
Hell yeah! lets name it.
Grilled Sails?!?
Grilling chilleng??
Swap spot??
something catchy. We can even do some other type of races. Maybe a 1000 meter dash, set mark A then maybe at a reach Mark B, come in as fast as you can, RC takes the time it takes you between both marks. Faster one, takes home a prize. Anything!
We can even have the hull flying competition between those two markers. I think its a great idea Eric, its an awesome way of bringing the family out.
Maybe late April? a date that DOES NOT coincide with other events is a must.
OOOORRRR!! the first day of Spring, a BBQ is a must!!!
OH man the posibilities are endless!!
Another idea, everyone MUST bring a home made trophie, that cannot have cost more than 10 dollars for materials!! obviously something that will not break as soon as you put your hands on it. In other words something simple, but hand built! The name of the day should be put on this so called trophie.
Think about it, no one will leave without a trophie. Ten boats show up, that is ten trophies. 20 boats show up, that is 20 trophies. We will decide which is first, second yadda yadda that same day, depending on what the trophie looks like.
I seriously love this idea!!!
Robi,
Back in the "old days," there were handmade trophies for all our local fleet regattas. And there actually were women and kids on the beach. And we actually had a cookout after the races, with hamburgers and hot dogs. And we had series scoring for the events and an end-of-the-year Christmas party where series trophies were presented.
Maybe you can help resurrect all that.
You don't do it through this forum, silly. You do it by joining CABB and going to all the events.
Then you volunteer to replace John Mcknight as commodore, and you take over the job of sending out e-mails to remind people about events coming up and you do the E-newsletter with stories about past events. Oh, yes, and you have to plan the fleet events for the whole year well in advance to make sure they don't conflict with other events.
And you volunteer to bring the barbecue grill and the food and drinks for after the races.
And when you get in off the water, you pass out the drinks and fire up the grill and cook the food.
You conduct the race committee meeting before the races and you hand out the trophies after the races.
And the homemade trophies? You are going to stay up all night the night before the races making the trophies, because nobody else is going to do it.
Well, maybe you could start by just doing food and trophies, and let John still be commodore. Right now nobody does food and trophies, as far as I know. But it would be nice.
I'm not one to talk, because I haven't even been to a CABB event in a long, long time.
If we could just find one person who was willing to stay on the beach and have an after-race feast awaiting the sailors, and hot drinks when it is cold or cold drinks when it is hot, it might do wonders to get more people to come to the fleet events.
Know anybody?
Geez! Mary ! You make sound as if it is NOT fun.
By they way, Robi, Eric, et al, I think it would be a great idea to get the CABB Members to get into this Forum. Perhaps we can have John put the URL to the Forum in a signature for every email.., and/or just borrow his mailing list and send out notices about the Forum.
It might just get more enthusiasm going for CABB.
Rick
I don't care what I make it sound like. Nobody except John has done anything for this fleet for several years. It's time that some people who come to the events start helping out with them and MAKING them more fun.
I am dubious that it is going to happen -- but I am VERY hopeful.
Ideas are wonderful, but worthless unless they are implemented.
OK so where do we start? I volunteer to start cooking. I got a grill, but that huge monster wont fit in the cougar I use to tow my boat around. Although, I DO NOT HAVE A BOAT right now.
I say we should set a day, where we can have a small distance race, maybe a one hour trip? for the slowest boat. Then we fire up the grill, while we are grilling we can have the Hull flying competition.
Where CABB launches from its an excellent spot to do it all.
I emailed John and pointed him to this thread. Hopefully I will hear back from him soon.
We WILL do this. Where is that guy, with that huge red and white cat? That dude that races a beast of a cat!
You better be reading! you brought up this idea!
We can always use your truck to get the grill to the beach.
Everybody,
This does not have to be a CABB event or anyones event for that matter. I started out by saying, "BYO BBQ".
**** seems to think that "someone" has to cook for "everyone", I think everyone should cook for themselves and everyone should cook and eat together at the same time when everyone is finished sailing. Of course sharing with each other should be expected, I make a mean Mojo Pollo.
The should be no R.C. and no timing, no responsibility for anyone.
That will work as well!! Like a sailor gathering, come out to the beach set up the boats. Show them off ect ect..
I do it all the time except with the car clubs. Its hella fun.
That would be even better.
I thought you wanted to do a more serious type of event, but its a laid back day to relax sailing type of thing. Sweet!! im all for it.
Come on folks, there is an email floating around, lets get cracking mackine!!
March 5 and 6. I will probably be in Titusville picking up the Blade.

You've got to get them to volunteer FIRST and then come by and drop off the VOLUMES of responsibilities.
