Interested in holding a distance race??
To John and other CABB members.
1Design.Net, the host of the Harken Endurance Distance Series is looking for a replacement event for the Delray Drag that was held in March.
Currently, the series includes events in Key Largo, Melboune, Tampa, Jacksonville and Daytona Beach.
Would CABB be interested in holding a distance event 30-50 miles in March to be part of the Endurance Series??
This would include Miami in the series.
Thanks,
Brian Karr

Brian, why don't you use the Miami-Key Largo Race? That is exactly the distance you are looking for, all on protected water, and the event already exists -- except it's in April.
With the Miami-Key Largo, the Hog's Breath 100 and the Mug Race all being on consecutive weekends, that's already a lot of distance races that time of the year. Not to mention the Tybee 500 coming right after them.
The problem is that it is in April. We already have a race in the Endurance Series in April, the Macho Man, held in Tampa. The Mug Race is also already in the series, which is in May
If you look at both series, the Endurance Distance series and the Buoy series, they are both purposely spaced out roughly monthly during the year.
(see the Event Listing on the right panel on www.1Design.Net)
The event that is being replaced was held in March, which fits in the yearly schedule nicely.
BTW. Fleet 127 Ft. Pierce has expressed interest in getting back into the swing of things and possibly holding a March distance race. Since last years hurricanes, they have been doing little sailing there, but they say they are ready to get back into it.
Now we just need to find someone willing to run it.
The problem I see is finding a spot for everyone to spend the night. CABB is a get setup in the morning race all day and leave in the afternoon gig.
Arent the Series distance races, one of those where you actually spend the weekend at the venue?
What is needed to make this happen?
Let me rephrase my question then.
What is needed in order to host a race like this? Even if it is NOT CABB.
I am just wondering what is all involved to get it setup and running smoothly.
I know for a fact you will need a RC and boats to run in the event. But what else makes an event happen?
Of the better distance races that CABB does is the Round Biscayne Island; & Fowey Rocks.
All CABB events are one day events. Don't know if that fits in or not, Brian.
Problem with two day events is expensive lodging and you would not dare leave your boat on Hobie Beach overnight.

Well next year the Delray Race is going to gear up tenatively with Craig Van Eaton to help support the West Palm Beach Sailing Club all Catamaran race They have a great area on the grass to set up a boat, a club house and a course if necessary that could be laid out in the Lake worth Lagoon that you could get 35miles out of And its a slightly shorter distance for those coming from up North.
