I am looking at buying a catamaran in the near future, but I am new to sailing so I have a general question about the Gemini 105Mc.
My understanding is that catamarans are not suppose to sink, is this the case with the Gemini 105Mc?
I got a few good replies after posting this in the wrong forum yesterday, but they said this would be a better forum for this type of question.
I like the value of the Gemini, but I am concerned about the safety. I am open to other types of cats in the same price range.
One of the posts from the other forum had a link to TomCat. I checked it out and it looks nice as well.
My plan is to cruise the East Coast and then to head down to the Bahamas, Caribbean, and end up in South America. Would any of these cats be able to safely get me there?

Go to Performance Cruising .com and click the Gemini link for the low down on the 105mc. Not to many multihulls are prone to sinking , They can get inverted but you still have a good raft till help arrives. If I remember correctly the first cruising reef point is 15 to 17 kts of wind.
I have very limited experience with the Gemini but the thing that I have noticed being on one is that they a re terribly noisy in any sort of waves. That puts them off my list of possibles.
One of our customers just dropped off the lit. on the Tom Cat for me to look at and make a recommendation but I have not looked at it much. The one thing I don't like is the centerboard that is surface pierceing by itself( not in a hull). I would think that it would collect weeds alot and be very subject to ventilation. Dave
I just sold my 1989 Gemini 3000 and I miss it already. All the Geminis have floatation in all 4 corners. They aren't noisy unless you are really beating (never a good choice when cruising). The place to go for answers is the yahoo gemini group: http:/
Funny, one of the things I liked most about the Tomcat was the centerboard setup.
the tomcat 9.7 is a great boat with good performance and more bang for the buck then anything else out there. the nicest thing about tomcat in my opinion is they are built by a great group of sailors who love boats. do you want some guy punching a clock working on your boat, or a fellow boater?
