lightening or other?

Hobie 16 in damn nice shape was set a fire by either lightening or deliberate.The tramp along the cross bar was melted and thus also much of the sunbrella cover.If lightening were to hit the boat would it not just explode everything comp tip mast and all these had no signs of burn . Odd......Bob G

I don't think so Bob. The carbon and aluminum conduct the electricity and are not ignighted by it. The tramp might catch fire because of the heat generated or there might have been an arc that went from the mast to the crossbar that ignighted it. It is possible it took a direct hit too.

Usually if the mast was hit the electricity would run down the shrouds and you would possilby see some melting where they meet the hull.
