[#31795]

This is a 120-mile reach up the South Texas Intercoastal Waterway. We had the 50th year run 2 years ago and plan to host this every 2-3 years. We start in Port Isabel and finish off of Doc's Seafood on North Padre Island. More info at www.RuffRider.net

Prevailing wind provides for a broad to tight reach. Two years ago, we had a tropical system in the Gulf that provided an East-Northeast wind which gave us a lopsided beat up the ditch.. The last half of Saturday became a tight reach. Sunday started as a square beat through the narrows and began to free up as we marched down the course.

We were lucky enough to have 2 chase boats and a supply boat. So far, the same support boats are available for 2026.

The Saturday stopping point is at "Hobie Hilton"; a few miles inside the narrows. Tent camping is on you. Last time, I placed the tent on the trampoline.

@texastuma Do you have the next date and info? If so, please add it (and any other events you have) to the calendar here.

Add to calendar form

https://thebeachcats.com/submit-event/

If you can give it a try and let me know any feedback on the process. I think it works well but I'm the only one who has used it so far.

Might need to create a step-by-step instructible like the one for classifieds so people have more confidence in the process.

Looks like a fun cruise. Hopefully more sailors take part this coming year!

@cat-scratch In 2024, the 50th anniversary of Ruff Rider, we had 23 entries. I know we will not get back to the 150+ boat fleet from the 80's and 90's, but I think we can easily get 50 boats.

Twenty-three entries is nothing to sneeze at. That's a good number!

That sounds like a fun event. Too bad I live 24 hours away. We need more of these kinds of sailing events.
