Goolwa to Meningie Sailing Classic
On Saturday, am, the 18th November 2006 the” Goolwa to Meningie Sailing Classic” starts from Goolwa at the bottom of the Murray river in South Australia, and is raced upstream on the river to Lake Alexandrina, across lake Alexandrina to the entrance into Lake Albert (the “narrows”), through the narrows then across Lake Albert to finish at Meningie at the south eastern end of the lake.
This is not a race for the “faint hearted”, it’s a long way (approx’ 70 plus kms), and there are a lot of “traps for the unwary”, but all in all it is a REAL CLASSIC that truly does “separate the boys from the men”. It is said of this race that just to be a finisher carries bragging rights for a whole sailing lifetime. Open to ALL cats, as well as the heartiest of mono-maran sailers.

Raced and won by an Alpha Omega F14!
Fourth across the line after eight and a half hours on the water in 33 degree heat and little wind. About five hours of light spinnaker work, conditions that should have favoured the larger cats. The F14 actually led all the cats for the first four hours. First across the line was the F18
blade
, second a Tornado, third a NACRA 5.8, then the Alpha Omega F14, followed by a 4.9 Taipan sloop and a 4.9 Taipan cat rigged.
The corrected time put the F14 first by just under 14 minutes to the 5.8 Nacra. Not too shoddy for a little 14' cat?
