What`s nicer is flying, rather than gliding !
Check out the weather in Cape Town, then pack your Taipan & come for the summer !

Hi Paul,
My house doesn`t even HAVE 5 rooms (unless you count the broom cupboard as a room !). It`s 64sq metres (about 650 sq feet)
My garage looks WAY worse than yours, storing furniture, windsurfers, sails, bicycles - I`ll post a pic if I can get hold of a digital camera (this is Africa, after all.)
LOTS of space at our yacht club, though, I`m sure we can arrange a boat storage shed for you, on condition that you leave your boats there, and come out for a month each year, I`ll even look after your toys the rest of the time !(Heh.)
Taipan looks awesome, even parked in a garage. Is the 49er hung above it to prevent water that leaks through the roof from dirtying your new toy ? Just kidding, but seriously, how do you choose which boat to sail ?
Steve
Hi Steve,
Seriously, would love to visit some time to do some sailing - you're invited to the S.F. Bay Area as well...
The boat hanging above the T4.9 is a Musto Performance Skiff which I love , but for which there's precious little racing.
Additionally, the choice of which boat to sail was made easier still the first time I did some hot reaches with the
Taipan in a lotta wind - Wow ,feels just like a really wide winged , super powerful skiff( this is "displacement sailing"?) ; just has a hydrodynamic split in the hull...
Regards,
Paul Kilkenny
Paul,
I just had to print out a hard copy of your garage photo to show my wife. You're making me look good--"See honey, at least I didn't have to cut a hole in the garage wall like he did..."
Anyway, what pond are you sailing on? The background looks like it's south bay area, maybe even Morgan Hill.
...And I though they only made sailing gloves ! Nice looking boat, I bet that the one thing you`re finding about the Taipan is that you don`t have to be proficient at ballet just to keep it upright. I mistook it for a 49er `cos we only have those & the 29er here in SA in small numbers, looking at it I now see the difference in the racks etc.
Best time to visit Cape Town with sailing in mind is NOW !! January to March/April. After that we have what is commonly known as winter, and while not too cold, it gets a bit like the attached pic from time to time. Not great for sailing. October to December is great for windsurfing, if you have really small sails & really big ..... I used to try to fit some paragliding in there somewhere but seem to have lost the plot a bit. December is acually great for cat-sailing too, on the days when the wind drops off to less than 25 knots.
I`m designing my next house right now, the garage is 9m (27ft) long, so I don`t have to make holes in the walls !
Cheers
Steve
