''Dont fear the speed~~fear the addiction'' I said that on my first Hobie 16 ride. I gotta 14 cat for starters. Good cat to learn on, but had to upgrade the following year. Had a 16 for some time~~~Opps, it happened again. Got a 17 Hobie off of e-bay for $511.00, road trip to Indiana(thats my avatar).. and 3 yrs after that gotta 18Hobie mag. I also had a MX-Ray skiff~~fast little thing, but sold it. too many toys....My girlfriend has a 14T. So really what I'm gettin at, ''Dont fear the speed thingyyy'' would apply to any fast skiff or CAT. If ya guys do use it, give me some credit for it please. <img src=

/> I've been sailin for 25+ yrs..Mono slug~~~ 21' Pearson down to fast cats and enjoy everybit of it.. <img src=

If you guys insist on a slogan, I kinda like this one:
Winning from the beginning
.
Inspired by these guys: http:/
Winning from the beginning

Do you guys really want the T-shirt to be about racing?
T-shirts are a marketing tool to help sell boats; right? So do you want to turn off all the people who have no interest in racing and just want a boat for fun, recreational sailing? <img src=
alt=
/>
First you sell the boat and second you sell the class and third you sell the racing aspect. Think about what non-sailors are going to see when you wear that shirt while you are shopping at Home Depot.
Stop preaching to the choir and trying to convert existing sailors. What we need is NEW sailors and MORE sailors. If some non-sailor is thinking about getting a sailboat, you want them to see that shirt and think,
THAT's the boat I want.
And you want the text to be something that will stick in their mind.
And you ought to have the class web site address on there somewhere. Think in terms of marketing. Dealers don't do it any more, so it is up to boat owners to do whatever they can to promote their own classes.
Don't pass up this opportunity that you have with the T-shirts.

Mary,
That is actually one reason why I like :
Don't fear the speed~~~Fear the addiction
, so much.
It is neutral towards recreational sailing and racing. It also highlights the performance part of the F16 class in a new non-demanding manner, by putting it in second place. The first place being the enjoyment of sailing the F16's of course (= the addiction). I think this is exactly how most F16 sailors feel and see the F16 class.

Don't fear the speed- fear the addiction.
Is a very good logo.
I would be surprised if anyone can come up with a logo
that would fire up my imagination more. As far as I'm
concerned that is what the logo is supposed to do.
Grab peoples attention with an air of excitement.
If it does not mean anything and even if it makes no sense does not matter as long as it has fired up the right emotion.
Having said that my mind is not as closed on the subject as my post may infer, if someone can come up with something better. But to be affective it has to fire people up.
Don't fear the speed - fear the addiction.
Why not achieve a similar sentiment with a simpler structure that does not require a negative contraction:
speed is addictive
or
addicted to speed.
This will also make the amphetamine reference even more obvious, further enhancing the bad-butt image we are creating here.

I totally agree. I LOVE that slogan, and I was hoping somebody else would say something. And you DID. <img src=

Now the question is whether it has been used elsewhere. Is that original or plagiarized? If Popeyz is the person who came up with that phrase, he needs to get credit for it somehow and he also needs to officially give permission to the class to use that slogan.
It's sort of like when a graphic artist donates his or her time and talent to create a logo for a class.
If Popeyz is the originator, should he copyright it? Or, if he gives it to the F16 class, should the class copyright it?
Just questions that occur to me, because it is too good (and too generic) to not be used by other interests.
I think this one might already belong to Jenny Craig but how about,
Lose Weight Now, Ask me how
on the front and
Race F16!
on the back, above the picture Robi had posted.
OR...
I want it ALL and I want it NOW!
on the front, and
Race F16
on the back. Reference to the ability to race both Uni and Two up.
?
So don't call it a slogan. Right now Robi just needs something to put on the back of this limited edition shirt.
It would be nice, though, to have some short phrase that sort of identifies the class and sets it apart from all the other
F
classes. Cripe, we have the F-12, the F-14, the F-16, the F-17, the F-18, the F-20, the F-24, F-27, F-28, F-31....we are lost in the
F
orest. <img src=

alt=
" />
Dont forget that the F28 is/was a formula class in its own in Europe, as apart from the Farrier designs F24, F27, F28, F31, F36, F41 etc. Formula 20 is dead for the time being..
Dont fear the speed, fear the addiction
!
Googling the phrase dont show any hits. I think we found gold <img src=

I have always thought that it is a mistake marketingwise to name a class of boats with an
F
and a number. It sounds so cold and sterile, like something that a computer came up with (even if that is true).
People who love boats want to think of them more like a member of the family. F-16 just doesn't sound very
friendly.
What is it I am trying to say? I can't figure out how to express it.
Well, Pete, I think we are talking about appealing to men here. Obviously, this concept of speed and addiction would not appeal to most women -- especially wives.
That's why my personal favorite (being a woman and a wife and a mother and a grandmother) is
Formula for Fun
because I think that would sell best with the wife and and family. But I realize that doesn't go over well with all you macho guys.
If you want to sell the boat to the public, the ultimate would be to have a cartoon caricature of a catamaran that makes it look cute and fun instead of fast and furious.
