Okay! I have dings and dimples that need to be smoothed out. Plus, the bottoms are getting bare in a couple of spots so new gel coat is in order.
I have lots of such experience on Hobies, mostly with polyester resin, but have done nothing in the last twenty years or so. What is new and different? Does anyone have a favorite trick for tinting gel coat to perfect color match?
Is there a book?

for dings- marinetex without a doubt. Very easy to work with (although can be difficult to get the ratio corect). Use latex gloves dampened with a little water and you can smooth it on very easily. Easily sanded as well.
Bigger dings require epoxy in my opinion. As for gelcoat... never done it... never want to. I would go with the 98 cent spray can variety and feather it out and then when things get too bad then get someone else to do a full gelcoat job.
As for the dimples our boats get. really not sure the best way to go for that. probably marinetex again but I would worry how it would react to any flexing that goes on- like would it crack or not if the underlying glass flexes?
What do you want the photos to show?
I dont think you will be able to see much with the areas that I have already done since I can't show any progression. I will be doing the bottoms once it warms up a bit. I will take some shots of the process then for you.
Let me know if you want smething specific detailed.
